Tricolored Herons
Eileen was at the pool relaxing, soaking up the sun, and reading a book, so I decided to take a short road trip to photograph some wildlife.
I saw a few birds in one of the ponds and found a spot to park. There were a few Great Egrets, and as I started to photograph them, I noticed something move towards the shoreline. At first, I thought it was a Blue Heron. Once I focused on the bird, I saw something different; it was a Tricolored Heron. What a beautiful bird, smaller than a Blue Heron with blue-gray upperparts, a white stripe on the neck, and a white belly with yellow legs.
As I was photographing the Herons, a few Snowy Egrets flew in. Snowy's are smaller than the Great Egrets. They have only a yellow patch at the bill's base with mostly black legs and yellow feet.I moved around, trying to get a better advantage as these smaller Egrets were actively moving around the small pond. After watching and photographing them, I decided to head to the marina just down the road.
A local photographer told me the Marina was a good place for birds. They have a fish cleaning station, and it attracts birds. I timed it right as two fishermen were cleaning their catch.
Brown Pelicans everywhere! I watched for a while and tried to see what the Pelicans were doing, trying to get some in-flight. After watching some habits, I was able to get the series below.
The fisherman finally finished cleaning their fish, and as the action slowed down, a few Pelican decide to hang out on the dock. I took a few closeups and headed back to the RV.
Photography should be fun! It's not about the phone or camera brand you're using. Always remember, your best photographs are the result of one thing, making an effort to get out and shoot.
