Today was the first sunny day after a cold rainy weekend. Temperatures climbed near fifty degrees as I cleaned up the last of the leaves. It’s amazing what bright sunny day does to your attitude. After completing my list of to-do items it was time to try out a new lens I purchased.
My new lens is a Canon 35 1.4 L II. The lens is fast, sharp, and fun to shoot. It’s been a while since I shot a fixed focal length lens. I’m use to shooting my zoom lens. Shooting at just 35mm really makes me think about composition. The old saying, “The best zoom is your feet” is definatly true using a 35mm.
I started shooting about an hour before sunset; the light was still pretty good. Shooting at 1.4 allows me to use lower ISO settings; this produces a photograph with less noise. As the sun faded, the moon started to show.
With no zoom I started to think how I could frame the photo a little different. I zoomed about forty paces towards the lake to bring a group of phragmites into the frame for a little different perspective. It’s fun thinking more about framing the scene with the fixed lens. It also just might give me a little more exercise!
