I was on my way to Marshall to get my Jeep fixed (hit a deer) and I came across a wetland area that was full of Sandhill Cranes. The mild weather has kept some of them in the area. I’ve always liked pictures of them as a silhouette with a colorful background.
I arrived before sunrise; it was a cold and frosty morning. Luckily I had a big mug of hot coffee to help keep me warm while I waited for daylight. It was so dark I couldn’t even see if there were any Cranes. As the daylight approached I started to hear them rustling in the wetland.
At first light things started to change, the colors in the sky turned beautiful. All I needed now is for the Cranes to start flying. I started to see more movement and then I got my wish. For the next hour I watched and photographed them leaving the wetland.
I was surprised that by the time in turned to daylight; all the cranes had left the wetland. What an exciting morning! I had a plan in my head about the type of photograph I envisioned, rarely does that turn out.
