It’s been a long winter, spring temperatures have felt more like winter. It finally looks like we might have put winter behind with temps close to sixty. Sixty by no means is warm for riding, but after almost 5 cold months, I’ll take it. I decided to take a ride for lunch to one of my favorite restaurants, the Saucy Dog’s in Jonesville.
On the way to Jonesville I stopped at Wayside Memorial Park. I’ve been by the park many times but never took the time to stop. I walked around for about an hour, exploring the park, and taking a few pictures. It’s really nice, and I discovered there’s a walking trail around the lake. I’m planning on going back when I have more time and walk around the lake.
I also stopped in the small town of Litchfield to look at the memorial they constructed. I watched it develop over most of last summer and wondered what they were building. Once it took shape I realized it was a “WE WILL REMEMBER” memorial recognizing the branches of armed services.
As I sat and looked at the memorial, I started reading the names engraved in the pavers. I noticed that a lot of them were from the area. I thought about the sacrifices they made in the name of freedom. Litchfield did a wonderful job with the memorial.
The Saucy Dog’s Barbeque, in downtown Jonesville, serves some of the best barbeque in the area. It’s one of my favorite places to stop for lunch.
The brisket sandwich basket is my favorite. It’s heaped with tender smoked brisket, topped with sautéed onions on a Kaiser bun. It’s also served with a more than generous portion of fries. If you can finish this, you can finish anything.
It sure seems good to be able to get out and ride, can’t wait for seventy!
