This is the first year of school sports for our granddaughters Grace and Payton. They both played on club teams so we were all excited to see them play for the blue and white of Harper Creek.
Grace had a breakout year, I know, how can you have a breakout year in your first year? Well, Grace came out of her shell and played more aggressive. She handled the ball, dribbling and driving to the basket. It was something we all knew she could do but she just never seemed to have the confidence.
By the second game of the season her confidence started to grow, and by the end of the season she was doing the things that we all knew she could do. It was fun for the whole family to watch and cheer Grace on during the games.
Payton plays hard all the time. She’s fearless when she drives to the basket. She has a lot of natural ability but also works hard and wants to get better. She had some great games, scoring, rebounding, and playing defense.
We watched her improve as the year progressed and can’t wait until her skill level catches up with her intensity. It was also great to watch a lot of the other players improve over the course of the season.
The girls have a big following. There were dads, moms, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grand parents, and great grand parents attending games. We all had fun watching the first year of Harper Creek basketball.
