The Battle Creek Field of Fight has been a Fourth of July tradition dating back to 1980. Held during the week of the Fourth of July it features a balloon competition, air shows, fireworks and lots of entertainment. According to the USA Today the 2017 Battle Creek Field of Flight was voted the third best air show in the United Sates.
I’ve taken pictures at the event over the years but today I was just heading in to town and as I came around the corner they just appeared right in front of me.
I had my Canon M5 mirrorless camera with me so I pulled over and got out of my Jeep. I walked around the field watching and taking pictures.
The balloons were coming down and dropping their marker on a target just over the tree-line. I watched as each balloon took a little different approach as they came down below the tree line and then back up in to the sky.
I really enjoy using my M5, being so small it’s really easy keeping it in the car. Sometimes the best pictures are not planned, they just appear around the corner…
