I need a walk!

April 23, 2020

I don't know about you, but I'm getting stir crazy! We're not used to spending so much time at home, and some fresh air and a walk in the woods would do me some good. It was sunny and cold, so I dressed warmly and headed to the MSU Bird Sanctuary.

The office and the facilities closed, but the grounds are open. They did an excellent job marking the entrance with social distancing signs and even created a different exit to keep proper distance.

I went down to the main viewing area at the water's edge and spent some time watching and photographing wildlife. After about an hour, it was time for that walk.

The trail around the lake is about 3.5 miles. I took my time often stopping to enjoy the scenery. If you sit and observe, nature seems to come alive. Birds were flying from branch to branch, squirrels running up and down the trees, turtles sunning on a log, and this large pine tree full of woodpeckers holes.

As I came out of the trails and back to the central part of the lake, I noticed some Wood Ducks. I've photographed them before, but I've never seen any that came on the shoreline. Usually, I don't get close enough to get a full-frame photograph.

I kelt down, waited, and watched for them to get used to me being close. After about 15 minutes, they seemed not to notice my presence, and I was able to photograph them.

If you can, get out and take a walk, it made me feel better!
