Backyard Sandhill Cranes

It was a rainy day and I was working in my office when I heard this pair of Cranes outside by my feeders. The pair have been coming around almost every day.

They are getting so used to the area that today, they even decided to take a little break and enjoy the cool, damp day.

It's uncommon to see them lay in the grass like today. I've only had this happen one other time in Texas.

This one was keeping an eye on me. A few days back, I was sitting in a lawn chair when the pair walked right past me. I was less than five feet from them. They turned and looked, then just kept calmly walking.

I've been wondering why this pair keeps choosing the same area. Today, I found out why. One of the Cranes slowly walked to my neighbor's tree and started picking the berries from it. Bottoms up!

The tree was still wet, and raindrops fell from the leaves as the Crane pulled off the berries. The Cranes hung out for almost two hours eating the berries.

They finally decided to start moving around and walked back towards my feeders.

This one spread its wings, showing the beauty and details of its wings. I wish it were a little farther back, as I could not get its feet in the frame.

Time to leave. Today was one of the unplanned photography days that sometimes happens. Perfect conditions for getting vibrant colors.

Photography should be fun! It's not about the phone or camera brand you're using. Remember, your best photographs result from one thing, making an effort to get out and shoot.
