2024 Tricolored Herons
The Tricolored Heron is a slender bird with a long bill and legs. It's one of the more colorful birds in the Heron family.
It's one of the smaller Herons with dark blue upperparts contrasting with a white belly and white stripe up the neck.
These Herons are found in wetlands and shallow water around rivers, ponds and lakes.
They will walk looking for food and stop and stare into the water for several minutes.
Then, suddenly, dive under and come up with a small fish, crickets, crayfish, prawns. This one caught a large spider.
I shot this as it rose above the water and glided along the shoreline.
I like this one with its wings extended upward, showing its white underbody.
I usually see Linkins feeding along the lake, but with all the rain, the area was flooded. The wet area created another location for a group of Cattle Egrets.
What would visiting the park be without seeing one of my favorite birds, the Sandhill Crane.
Our visitors only had one thing they wanted to see: BIG GATORS! Myakka Park never disappoints, as there are always lots of gators.
Photography should be fun! It's not about the phone or camera brand you're using. Remember, your best photographs result from one thing, making an effort to get out and shoot.
Comments are always welcomed.
