What a fun weekend in Marshall, MI. Friday night the downtown was buzzing with people looking at the ice sculptures and wine tasting. I think every restaurant was busy, we went into three before we found a table at Mikes.
The fun continued during the day on Saturday. Saturday night dinner and music started at 6 pm. downstairs at the Franke Center.
The Fat Animals entertained a packed crowd for about two hours.
We didn't get there until about 7 pm. and we had a hard time even finding a seat. They did a nice job with a mix of music, the crowd was enjoying the band. I didn't get a chance to take very many photos of the band but they will be playing at the Bohm Theater Monday night at 7 pm.
Chicago bluesman Wayne Baker Brooks was the headliner. He's the son of famous Chicago bluesman Lonnie Brooks. Lonnie passed away in 2017 at the age of 83. We attended Harmony Fest in Three Rivers, MI. many years ago and Lonnie was the headliner. A young Wayne played backup with his dad at that time.
Wayne, born and raised in Chicago is not only one of today's top guitarists and singers he's also a great entertainer that had the crowd involved from the very first song.
He played some blues standards that paid tribute to some of the great bluesmen of the past and songs from his CD mystery. It didn't take long to see why he's considered one of the top blues artists of his generation.
Wayne and his band, a talented group that musicians gave the audience a night to remember. I've been to almost every blues show at the Franke Center and this is one of the best.
I’d like to give a big thank you to the Franke Center for the Arts for there continued support of the blues. If you want to see some of the top blues acts in an intimate setting, then visit the Franke Center. http://frankecenterforthearts.org
